Taroko

While Marilyn was here we went to Taroko National Park on the east coast of Taiwan. Michael had been there twice before and me once. But we both agreed that this was the best time.




We went with a group of teachers and staff from school in a big bus. We stayed in a fancy hotel "The Grand Formosa" in the National Park. And we did lots of walking, exploring and relaxing.











Takoro is a gorge, and all the walls are marble. It is quite awe-inspiring to see huge walls and boulders of marble. It looks much better here than in a hotel lobby, that's for sure!

We walked to Baiyang Waterfall. We really appreciate the mountains and nature after living in the concrete jungle of Taipei.











There were heaps of tunnels on the walking track. There is no lighting so you have to just point your body towards the small speck of light and walk. This pic is almost at the end of the tunnel.













Mike, Alister and Neil walked through a tunnel and through the waterfall.... or something like that. They needed to wear raincoats to avoid getting drenched.

We went to Taroko during a long weekend. There were heaps of people. Including many people camping in the parking lots along the gorge road. We were inspired, but noted that our western backs might not like sleeping on asphalt.
